A LITTLE ABOUT OUR SITE
North Bournemouth Allotments Society is a community of approximately four hundred Members and Co-workers. Our Membership comprises people of very diverse ages and backgrounds (and our age ranges are getting younger).
We hold regular Social Events throughout the year, with the Site Coffee Shop providing an excellent venue for a leisurely chat over a cup of coffee on a day-to-day basis.
There have been allotments here for over 100 years, a recent site upgrade by the Council has provided us with excellent new facilities including a café, meeting room, toilets and shop which we keep well stocked. We have a small number of plots suitable for people with disabilities.
The site, is leased by the Society from BCP Council, has about 255 plots, mainly made up of Half Plots (up to 75 sq m) and Full Plots (up to 150 sq m). Plot rents at the moment are £40 for a half & £60.00 for a full plot for the year. Plot Rents include water charges, insurance, and NSALG membership.
We have a concrete road structure with 5 designated car parks. Water is supplied throughout the site.
NBAS was first registered as a Mutual Society in 1936 and is committed to operating for the mutual benefit of its Members with any financial surplus made being used to increase financial reserves against future costs or to improve the facilities and amenities available to our Members.
We have an active Management Committee that manages the site on a day-to-day basis and organise our events and shows. The Committee also administers the Rules and Bye-laws and conducts the day-to-day running of the Allotment Site. The Society sets its own plot rents and is responsible for plot letting and tenancy terminations. Our Site Managers help to maintain a high level of cultivation and appearance of the plots and general tidiness throughout the site, through a monthly system of inspection. They also regularly provide hints and advice on cultivation.
All tenant shareholders have an equal say at the Annual General Meeting in the running of the Society.
